VISITING AMBIALET
FROM THE CAMPING
AMBIALET, A PENINSULA IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TARN
IDEALLY LOCATED TO DISCOVER ICONIC PLACES IN OUR REGION, LIKE AMBIALET
Ambialet is a village located 50 minutes from Cahuzac-sur-Vère and 30 minutes from Albi. It is renowned for its unique feature: a village built on a peninsula carved by the meanders of the Tarn river. This offers it a beautiful panorama. Moreover, it is divided into two parts: Lower Ambialet and Upper Ambialet. This very special location makes it a must-see curiosity from our Tarn camping site!
VISITING AMBIALET
AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
If you enjoy walking and don’t mind some uphill, you can also visit the Priory, (also called Notre-Dame-de-l’Oder). This second name comes from a tree located near the priory. To reach the Priory, you can follow the Stations of the Cross path.
You can also visit the hamlets around the village:
- La Condomine: a hamlet around the Saint-Pierre Church.
- Bonneval: where you can see the ruins of the Trancavel Castle. It is also crossed by the GR36 hiking trail.
During your walk in the lower part of the village, you can visit the Saint-Gilles Church. It is a Romanesque construction. Recently restored, it hosts exhibitions from June to September. You can also enter Notre-Dame-de-la-Capelle, which is said to have been the chapel of the former Trancavel castle.
Around Ambialet, on a marked walk, you can also discover the Oubièges underground. It was discovered in 1959. You can also see a small excavation there that may have served as a lookout post.
