TOULOUSE, WHERE SCIENCE MEETS CULTURE,
A WALK THROUGH THE PINK CITY FROM OUR CAMPSITE

Known as “The Pink City”, Toulouse is famous for its cultural heritage, including monuments and events, as well as its strong connection to science. In fact, it was European Capital of Science in 2018.

DISCOVER TOULOUSE
THE PINK CITY

Toulouse is located just 1 hour from our campsite in the Tarn, and it is the capital of Haute-Garonne.

As you stroll through the city, you’ll quickly see why it’s called “The Pink City” — most buildings are made of terracotta bricks. The Capitole (City Hall of Toulouse) is built with these bricks and stands on the city’s main square. Behind it, don’t miss the Archives Tower with its distinct slate roof.

Nearby the Capitole, you can visit:

  • The Convent of the Jacobins, built in 1229.
  • The Basilica of Saint-Sernin, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture.
  • Saint-Étienne Cathedral, dating back to the 5th century and featuring two Gothic styles.

And many more sights to explore…

FOCUS
ON PINK AND GREEN

If you love nature, Toulouse offers several gardens to explore. Among them is the Jardin des Plantes, near the Canal du Midi. This garden spans over 7 hectares and contains 1,300 plant species. During your stay at our campsite near Toulouse, be sure to visit the Japanese Garden, inspired by Kyoto’s gardens. It’s officially listed as a “remarkable garden.” In the Purpan district, you can also see the remains of an ancient amphitheatre, built around the year 50.

For active visitors, the Canal du Midi runs through the city and links Toulouse to the Mediterranean. It’s perfect for cycling or walking, and a great way to get out of the city.

Toulouse is also a city of festivals. Notable ones include Rio Loco (June 15–18), celebrating island cultures from the Indian Ocean, and the “Marathon des Mots,” which brings poetry to unexpected places. Don’t miss the International Tango Festival (June 30–July 9), featuring concerts, dance evenings and workshops.

You can also explore the city by boat — on the Canal du Midi from March to June, and on the Garonne and Canal de Brienne from June to October.

Science lovers shouldn’t miss the Cité de l’Espace, located 20 minutes from the city center. Discover full-size spacecraft, rare space artifacts, life onboard simulations, and conferences on current events. Did you know? The Cité celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017!

There’s plenty to discover in Toulouse during your stay.
