VISIT THE GORGES DU TARN
FROM THE CAMPSITE
A JOURNEY TO THE SOURCES OF THE TARN
FROM OUR CAMPSITE IN OCCITANIE
A protected natural site since 2002, the Gorges du Tarn offer breathtaking scenery along a 50‑kilometre route. Located just 2 hours from Le Soleil des Bastides campsite and also 2 hours from Albi, it makes for a great full‑day outing.
A ROUTE
THROUGH PICTURESQUE VILLAGES
Perfect for a day‑trip out of our department from our family campsite in the Tarn.
At the edge of the Grands Causses Regional Park, the Gorges du Tarn impress with ochre, reddish and black‑streaked cliffs. Along the way, you’ll pass charming villages, including:
- Sainte‑Énimie: listed among the most beautiful villages in France, born around a 6th‑century monastery. Its paved streets use Tarn pebbles. Summer events include a comics festival in late June and guided tours of the medieval city from July 12 to August 9—meet at the Tourist Office at 10 AM.
- Florac: the capital of Cévennes National Park. Don’t miss the Pêcher spring, emerging from a large rocky scree.
- Saint‑Chély du Tarn: southwest of Sainte‑Énimie, nestled between the river and a cliff. This authentic village, with stone houses, offers stunning views of the cirques of Saint‑Chély and Pougnadoires.

FOCUS
ON THE GORGES DU TARN
Along the route you’ll encounter stunning castles:
- Château de Prades: built in the early 13th century, notable for its chapel and square tower.
- Château de la Caze: in Laval‑du‑Tarn, distinguished by a horseshoe‑shaped tower linked to its south façade by a beveled wall.
- Château de Peyrelade: constructed between the 12th and 16th centuries, known as one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in Rouergue. Be sure to stop at its rock‑hewn keep.
