What to do during a weekend in the Tarn? A two-day itinerary for unforgettable memories

Want to discover the best of the Tarn without wasting time? Here’s a route designed to optimize your weekend in the Tarn, starting and ending at our campsite Le Soleil des Bastides. Get ready for two days full of excitement, nature, and discovery.

Day 1: medieval immersion and gourmet pause

After a delicious breakfast on your mobile home terrace at our campsite in the heart of the Tarn, head to Cordes-sur-Ciel, just a 15-minute drive away. This hilltop village, listed among the most beautiful in France, transports you straight to the Middle Ages. Stroll along the cobbled streets, admire the Gothic facades or stop by the Maison du Grand Fauconnier. Don’t miss the charming Place de la Halle, once bustling with merchants trading cloth, leather, rope and grain. Be sure to visit the Jardin des Paradis, labelled a “Remarkable Garden” for its enchanting atmosphere. No surprise that Cordes-sur-Ciel was named “France’s Favourite Village” in 2014!

Time for a gourmet break! Book a table on a restaurant terrace and enjoy a lunch infused with local flavors. Cassoulet, duck breast, or a vegetarian plate — the South-West is on your plate during your weekend in the Tarn.

Next, drive to Albi, a UNESCO World Heritage gem located 25 km from Cordes-sur-Ciel. Be amazed by the impressive Sainte-Cécile Cathedral, the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum and the Berbie Palace, a former bishop’s palace. The red-brick city will dazzle you. Take time to explore local craft shops and sip a coffee facing Place du Vigan.

End the day back at the campsite with a peaceful dinner at the restaurant or a cozy meal on your terrace. Gaze at the stars before a restful night in your accommodation in the Tarn.

Day 2: nature, relaxation and panoramic views

On the second day of your weekend in the Tarn, head to the Sidobre, about 1 hour and 15 minutes from our campsite. This one-of-a-kind European site is an open-air museum where nature has sculpted granite rocks into fantastic shapes. Ideal for a fun family walk or a more challenging hike.

Then, continue to the village of Lautrec, 28 minutes from the Sidobre. Perched on a rocky outcrop, this medieval village proudly overlooks the Tarn. From the Calvary of La Salette, enjoy a breathtaking view: the Agoût valley stretches toward the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees appear on the horizon. Have lunch at a local restaurant — Lautrec is famous for its pink garlic. This authentic stop adds charm to your weekend in the Tarn.

In the evening, treat yourself to a wellness break by booking a spa session in Castres or Gaillac.

Return to our campsite for a peaceful night in your room, mobile home or starlit cabin.

This weekend in the Tarn is a rich experience to enjoy at your own pace. From cultural discoveries and tasty moments to relaxation and nature, it has all the ingredients for a perfect stay. Whether you’re a nature lover, history enthusiast or simply in need of a relaxing weekend, this part of southern France is sure to charm you.
