CORDES SUR CIEL
BASTIDE

Cordes-sur-Ciel is a bastide, located 20 minutes from Cahuzac-sur-Vère and from the Tarn campsite Le Soleil des Bastides, and 30 minutes from Albi.

It was founded in 1222 and is now listed as one of the Great Sites of Midi-Pyrénées. In 2014, it was voted the French people’s favourite village. At the heart of the bastide, you’ll find various museums.

Food lovers can visit the Museum of Sugar and Chocolate Arts by Yves Thuriès. Learn chocolate crafting techniques. The museum also offers workshops for children aged 6 to 14.

Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Embroidery Museum and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, located in the Grand Fauconnier House, a listed historic monument.

History buffs will enjoy the Charles Portal Museum, which showcases Cordes’ architecture and history. In July, the village hosts the medieval Grand Fauconnier Festival, featuring falconry, music, and dancing.

OUR CHOICE FOR YOU

Since 1971, every July 14, the Grand Fauconnier Festival delights young and old. Join locals dressed in medieval costumes. Processions, entertainment—it’s a major highlight of the town.

Feeling peckish? Stop by the Maison de Pays for local products. Be sure to try the Cordes specialty: croquants (crunchy biscuits). They even have their own festival in June, where the “Biggest Croquant” is made.

20 minutes from Cordes and Cahuzac-sur-Vère, Vaour hosts a burlesque theatre festival, l’été de Vaour, in early August. It spans five days. Fun fact: Marc Jolivet performed there in its early years.
